When you order from BH Boutiques, you are not pulling something off a factory line. Your piece began as a sketch on my desk in Milpitas, California, and passed through my hands at every step before it reached yours. I am Behishta, the founder, and I would love to walk you through how that happens.
It Starts with a Sketch
Every design begins on paper. I sketch a neckline, play with a sleeve, and adjust a hem until the shape feels right. Some ideas come from the colors and embroidery I grew up loving as an Afghan American, and some come from customers who tell me what they wish they could find. Nothing moves forward until the drawing feels like something you would be excited to wear.
Choosing Fabric by Touch
I never choose fabric from a photo. I hold it, drape it over my arm, and watch how it moves and catches the light. A fabric has to feel right against the skin before it earns a place in the shop. Because I buy small quantities, a fabric that inspires one batch may never appear again, which makes each release special.
Cut and Sewn in Small Batches
Once the design and fabric are set, I cut a small batch, often just a handful of pieces at a time. Each one is sewn by hand, seam by seam, with the kind of attention a production line simply cannot give. Small batches let me slow down, correct little things, and treat every piece as its own project instead of one of thousands.
The Finishing Details
Finishing is where a handmade piece shows its heart. Before anything is offered in the shop, every piece goes through the same careful review.
- Every seam is checked for strength and clean stitching.
- Hems and edges are finished and pressed by hand.
- Buttons, beads, and embroidery are secured one by one.
- The whole piece is looked over in natural light one final time.
If something does not meet my standard, it does not ship.
Packed with Care and Sent to You
When your order is ready, I wrap it myself, like a gift for a friend. Orders are prepared in 1 to 2 business days, and delivery across the United States usually takes 3 to 5 business days after that, with shipping calculated at checkout based on your address and package weight.
Why Handmade Takes Longer
A factory can turn out hundreds of identical garments in a day. I cannot, and I would not want to. Handmade work takes longer because a person is making thoughtful decisions at every step, from the first cut of fabric to the last stitch of the hem. Custom pieces are made to order, so they need a little more time, and I will talk through a realistic timeline with you before we begin. What you receive in return is clothing with intention sewn into it, made to be worn and loved for years, not for one season.
Small Variations Are Our Signature
Because every piece is made by hand, small differences in color, stitching, and finish are completely natural. A shade may sit a little deeper on one piece than another. A line of embroidery may curve in its own gentle way. These variations are not flaws. They are proof that a person, not a machine, made your piece, and they are exactly what makes it one of a kind. No one else will ever own the exact piece you are holding.
